Sherlock
It seems, well, “elementary” to call it smart because you can’t very well have a predictable detective show, especially when that detective is Sherlock Holmes. But I mean it’s so smart that I stand by my decision to watch the entire series with subtitles on, otherwise I would have missed a great deal. …I have such a thing for smart guys….. As do many other women on the show, despite Sherlock’s consistent verbal abuse and disregard for social graces. [Click on Picture for full review!]
Endangered Species!
A dirty, wicked article (http://www.aoltv.com/2011/10/28/bubble-shows-2011/) reported what it calls “Bubble shows.” These are shows that are under consideration for cancellation. I hadn’t even heard of most of the shows listed in this article and the ones that I have heard of could die in the street for all I care. The best show I have ever seen on television is in danger of cancellation if we, the courageous television viewers, don’t do something about it.
Modern Family
I had never even heard of Modern Family until last year’s Emmy awards when the show and its actors were nominated in nearly every category and won Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (for the pilot episode), and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Eric Stonestreet). It was the first time an ABC show has won for Outstanding Comedy Series since The Wonder Years twenty-two years ago. And then the even more influential advertising of word of mouth on my college campus took over and I decided that even though the premise didn’t really appeal to me I had to know what it was all about just to be a part of the cultural conversation. So I dedicated the past two weeks to watching every episode of the past two seasons. (Which means that in my head I am hearing this review in Gloria’s thick Columbian accent.) Community
When Community first came out in 2009 my immediate reaction after the pilot was “crap, this might be the best show I’ve ever seen on TV. They’re going to kill it.” the writing was so smart and the humor was so quick I immediately began a campaign to save the undoubtedly doomed show. However, I came out of the foxhole after a year to discover that the world had grown up and embraced this prickly group of weirdos as much as I had.

How I Met Your Mother
One of my favorite shows that seems to be most people's favorite show to hate (or worse, be completely
ignorant about) is How I Met Your Mother. I tried to ignore it when it first came out in 2005 and here I am six years later never having missed an episode.
Like every sitcom, it takes place in New York; but you know what? I’m okay with that because they make it work. Forgive me for committing television heresy here, but they use New York more creatively and with more affection than Friends ever did.
